COBALT

COBALT was photographed on July 21, 2017 with model Jackie Mass. This was NEGATIVS first black-and-white photoshoot. Lighting was also paramount. We created heavy shadows and highlights to give our subject definition. In post production, we waited separately; interpreting Cobalt in our own way. For instance, Jason blended a subtle cobalt blue tint into his photos that made them visually pop. With Mike’s photos, he chose to integrate a film-like layer into the desaturated colors. Jason and Mike focused on androgynous themes while developing this project. We communicated this concept through Jackie’s poses, wardrobe, makeup, hair, and personality along with several unique props. All in an attempt to merge masculine and feminine traits into one form.
